OSMH: OSMH Patching Does Not install the latest kernel

Applies To:

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure

OS Management Hub (OSMH)

Symptoms:

  • OSMH reports "Nothing to update" during patching operations.
  • Vulnerability reports indicate older kernel versions still active on the system.
  • $uname -r command shows the server is booted with an outdated kernel version.
  • Manual patching via yum update or dnf update after unregistering from OSMH successfully installs the latest kernel.
  • $ dnf repolist does not list ol8_uekr7 repository.

Cause:

The ol8_uekr7 (Oracle Linux 8 Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel Release 7) repository is not enabled or attached via OSMH.Without this software source, the latest UEK7 kernel packages are not available to the instance during automated patching.

Howdy, Stranger!
